Employment Opportunities at Camp!
A Seasonal Food Service Manager is needed for Girl Scout camp in McCall, Idaho. Qualified applicant must have at least one year experience in the food industry and be at least 21 years of age. Camp and outdoor cooking experience helpful. Specific duties include: Ordering food on a strict budget for a camp of up to 175 people per week, creating a healthy menu, creating specialized menus including vegetarian and gluten free meals, cooking meals three times per day, supervising a staff of up to five people, and in charge of day to day clean-up of kitchen.
Dates of camp will be: July 8 through August 14

Will review health forms and screen campers as they enter camp for lice, foot fungus, etc. Will administer prescription and over the counter medication to campers and staff. Will coordinate with area hospital or clinic for emergency care. The Impact of the Presidential Election on Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council--Employees Tune Into Inauguration Speech
GIRLS INSPIRED BY THE 2008 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
According to a new survey of 3,284 youth (2,309 girls, 975 boys) ages 13-17:
• Most girls (59%) say the election has increased their confidence in being able to achieve their goals in the future.
• Most girls (55%) say the election has increased their comfort level in speaking up and expressing their opinions on issues that matter to them.
• Most girls (51%) say the election has boosted their confidence in their ability to change things in the country.
• Half of girls (50%) report increased interest in politics as a result of the election.
• More than four in 10 girls (46%) think more highly of women’s ability to lead than they did before the election.
• More than four in 10 girls (46%) report increased interest in social and political activism as a result of the election.
• More than four in 10 girls (44%) report increased interest in community service or volunteer activity as a result of the election.
• More than four in 10 girls (41%) say that the election has had a positive impact on their desire to be a leader.
• Nearly two in three girls (65%) expect President-elect Obama to bring positive change to the country.
• Girl Scouts are more likely than other girls to think they have a high chance of becoming President (55% of Girl Scouts versus 35% of non-Girl Scouts).
The survey was commissioned by the Girl Scout Research Institute and conducted from Nov. 11 – Dec. 2, 2008 by the market research firm Fluent. The survey consisted of online interviews with 3,284 young people between the ages of 13 and 17, and steps were taken to ensure that those surveyed were representative of the general population of young people in the United States.

GSSSC Recently Awarded $10,500 in Grants
GIRL SCOUTS OF SILVER SAGE COUNCIL RECENTLY AWARDED $10,500 IN GRANTS
The Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council (GSSSC) recently received four grant awards totaling $10,500 from The Whittenberger Foundation, the Caldwell Community Foundation, Idaho Community Foundation, and the Idaho Women’s Fitness Celebration Foundation. Funding from these foundations will go toward much needed youth development programs for girls living on the Duck Valley Indian Reservation (on the Idaho-Nevada border), at Farmway Village (outside of Caldwell), and in the Treasure Valley.
GSSSC Receives Grant from The Whittenberger Foundation
The Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council received a $5,000 grant from The Whittenberger Foundation. Funding will help bring the New Girl Scout Leadership Experience troop program to girls on the Duck Valley Indian Reservation and send these girls to the American Indian Scouting Association Conference in Pocatello, Idaho during the 2009 summer. The Duck Valley Indian Reservation sits on the Idaho/Nevada border and is home to approximately 2,300 Shoshone-Paiute people. GSSSC has provided quality, sustainable youth programs and opportunities for girls to connect with positive mentors on the Duck Valley Indian Reservation for 15 years.

Funding will help bring the New Girl Scout Leadership Experience troop program to girls on the Duck Valley Indian Reservation and send these girls to the American Indian Scouting Association Conference in Pocatello, Idaho during the 2009 summer. The Duck Valley Indian Reservation sits on the Idaho/Nevada border and is home to approximately 2,300 Shoshone-Paiute people. GSSSC has provided quality, sustainable youth programs and opportunities for girls to connect with positive mentors on the Duck Valley Indian Reservation for 15 years.
The Idaho Community Foundation is a statewide nonprofit organization composed of over 370 individual funds, pooled together for efficient management. Total assets are more than $72 million. Since its inception in 1988, ICF has made charitable distributions totaling more than $31 million.
GSSSC Receives Grant from The Caldwell Community Foundation
The Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council received a $2,500 grant from the Caldwell Community Foundation. Funding will go toward providing Girl Scout programs at Farmway Village, a migrant farmworker community on the outskirts of Caldwell. Girls will participate in leadership activities and will have the opportunity to travel during Summer 2009 to a location in the Pacific Northwest.
GSSSC Receives Grant from the Idaho Women’s Fitness Celebration Foundation
The Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council received a $2,000 grant from the Idaho Women’s Fitness Celebration Foundation to help fund youth development programs in the Treasure Valley. Funding from the Foundation will go towards special programs like College 101, where girls take a tour of a college campus with volunteer mentors from the local Sorority); Visions, an in-school/after-school program that helps girls transition to “teenage-hood” successfully – with confidence and self-esteem; and Science & Technology Day at Micron, where girls learn engineering and science in a fun-filled environment.

Poster Contest
The Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council and the Teen Advisory
Committee are hosting the first annual Girl Scout Cookie Poster
Contest. Girl Scouts of all ages are encouraged to explore their
creativity and design a poster with the medium of their choice.
Suggested themes are listed below. Individual girls and/or troops
can enter to win. Winners will be judged by the Teen Advisory
Committee for creativity. One winner per grade level will be
chosen. Winning posters will be reproduced and distributed
Council wide. See official rules below.
Rules
Each poster must be on 8 ½ x 11’ paper (no lined paper).
Each poster must have attached registration form included.
There will be one winner per grade level.
Posters are due February 1, 2009! (This is the last final date to have the posters turned in.)
You may use any medium you like, but posters will need to lie flat in order to be scanned for reproduction.

Girl Scouts, family, and friends are all invited to enjoy the
Idaho Steelheads vs. Fresno Falcons game on January 16th.
Tickets for adults are $13 and youth tickets (16 and under)
are $11.
Registered girls will automatically be entered in a drawing
to drop the first game puck and for a zamboni ride.
Tickets must be ordered by February 9th, 2009 and are
subject to availability.

Help the Salvation Army Stuff the Bus!
On Saturday, December 6th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Fred Meyer located at 5425 W Chinden Boulevard the Salvation Army will be putting on Stuff the Bus.
The goal of Stuff the Bus is to fill the buses with new, unwrapped toys (or gift cards) for children of all ages. The Salvation Army distributes the items to families in need throughout the community in time for Christmas. Girl Scouts will be on hand at store entrances to collect toys to fill a city bus. Help make the holiday a little brighter for those in need.
